Feel-good Impeccable Warriors

Dan, I think this pretty much sums up what you have been warning us about what happened to the other class members. Excerpt from “The Fire From Within”.

Your concentration has to be total. To understand is of crucial importance. The new seers placed the highest value on deep, unemotional realizations. For instance, the other day, when you understood about your self-importance, you didn’t understand anything really. You had an emotional outburst, that was all. I say this because the next day you were back on your high horse of self-importance as if you never had realized anything.
The same thing happened to the old seers. They were given to emotional reactions. But when the time came for them to understand what they had seen, they couldn’t do it. To understand one needs sobriety, not emotionality. Beware of those who weep with realization, for they have realized nothing.
There are untold dangers in the path of knowledge for those without sober understanding.

I suspect the phony kind just feeds “Mr. DoubleTake”.

He likes to feel self-righteous, since he’s basically a censoring bastard.

He’s down there.

The Zen folks call him “the self”, or “the ego”, or “the mirror of the mind”.

I’m not sure, because their understanding is simplistic, and they have no conception of the assemblage point.

But they have seen someone down there, causing trouble.

And when you’re viewing that far down, appearances are generated by your expectations.

So let’s not give him such a grandiose name.

He’s just the guy who makes impossible things go away.

He does a double take, and shakes them off.

You can both feel him, and also see him.

He’s Mommies good little boy! Trained for no nonsense.

Such as, don’t imagine things. There’s no monster in the closet. You didn’t astral travel downstairs last night. Don’t stare at the wallpaper.

Stop repeating that chant over and over! No, it doesn’t help you daydream! That’s stupid talk.

Don’t wave your hands around like that just because it feels good!

You’re annoying mommy.

No! You didn’t dream yourself outside and actually fly over the roof last night.

Everything has to have a purpose approved by Mommy.

Puffing yourself up on “warrior cake” won’t do anything to get him to stop.

That’s what he lives on! False pride.

Someday you’ll all be able to go back and play all the students in Carlos’ private classes.

Rewind private classes, and try out anyone you like.

(Just don’t play me or Cholita.)

Feel their impeccableness and you’ll have as big of an aversion to it as I do.

Funny thing is, as all powerful as Mr. DoubleTake is, he’s really sick of it.

And you can reason with him. But not up here. You have to go below.

Shut off the internal dialogue, for at least one hour.

No thoughts! Otherwise you’re not going to get there.

Well, accidents happen.

But correct them immediately.

Eventually you’ll be able to afford a few accidents. But at first, they can quickly be fatal.

In silence, find out what the hell is causing you to have those accidents.

Why do you keep thinking about specific things?

The random ones aren’t an issue. That’s the eagles command to take an inventory. If it’s over nearly instantly, it won’t hurt.

It’s when your mind keeps going back to something bothering you.

Find the image of that in your mind, and get rid of it.

You have to be in silence first, to see that, and to get rid of it.

Keep that up for another hour, and you’ll be able to see Mr. DoubleTake.

You’ll see him because magic will be buzzing in front of your face. Colors, lines, orbs, inorganic beings, portals to other realms. “The Wall” all around you.

If you’re seeing that stuff, it’s because you’ve trained Mr. DoubleTake to accept it. With many long hours of effort.

Actually, you don’t learn to see that stuff.

You learn to stop ignoring it! Mr. DoubleTake is still capable of some learning.

But some things are simply too much.

Mr. DoubleTake surely won’t put up with the world stopping.

It just has to go on all the time, or he’ll miss out on fresh cookies.

Or something else of this world.

Tell Mr. DoubleTake to give it a rest. You’ll take over for a while. If there’s any cookies, you’ll let him know.

Oddly, at this point he doesn’t even put up a fight.

You just have to offer to take over, and he gets up and leaves.

I’d sure hate to try that, if he was super obese from too much Warrior Cake.

Shut off the internal dialogue, for at least one hour.

I’ve been meaning to ask you this, as I have started over the last few days to begin working up to a 3 hour meditation per day.

When you say 3 hours are recommended, do they need to be 3 consecutive hours? Or would 3 blocks of 1 hour also achieve the same results in the same timeline?

What is your perspective on that?

When you say meditation, I’m not sure what you’re doing.

If you’re practicing silence in darkness, you can’t break the hours up. It takes 3 hours to move the assemblage point far enough to stop the world.

Taisha used to say you have to hold silence from 2 minutes, to 2 hours.

What she probably meant was, 2 minutes will loosen the assemblage point.

But if you remain silent for 2 hours, it has a chance to move far enough to surround you with magic.

Also, I fear you’re making the #1 mistake. Thinking you can put in your time. Show up. Graduate.

You can’t.

The students I have who have been most successful started out with my recommendations, then found their own path.

Well, I know there are all sorts of techniques in meditation.

Specifically in this context, I am sitting so far for 1 hour (still building up the ability to sit for consecutive hours) simply with the intent to achieve the cessation of the inner dialogue.

I’ve meditated before, I know that the more I show up, put in time, the closer I get to the point of being able to achieve inner silence. It’s been years since I’ve meditated with the same dedication I am now putting in, in the past I think it was upwards of a month before I even achieved any silence. But as time went on, I remember getting there in about an hour, and gradually each time I returned, getting there a little sooner and sooner, until eventually I had it down to about 5 min to get to that point.

So I do think there is merit in the approach, anyway, got to start somewhere, right? I’m simply putting in my time at this point, to get to the starting point of inner silence, so I can then find my path.

I was hoping there might be a short-cut, even though your answer was what I thought it might be. 3 consecutive hours, as opposed to an easier method of 3 - 1 hour sessions. You cleared it up, knowing what I’m aiming for, will make it easier to get there.

simply with the intent to achieve the cessation of the inner dialogue

Well that will do the job for sure!

In the chair, you could break it up. If you’re trying to do magic in darkness, no. You can’t break it up.

It’s been years since I’ve meditated with the same dedication

Just remember this. There’s a GIGANTIC reward for learning to be silent.

Don’t worry about the 3 hour thing. That’s only for after you learn to be silent. There’s almost no point to darkness gazing, unless you can hold silence long enough to feel the assemblage point move.

Short cuts?

Well… Unfortunately, both dreaming (lucid) and recapitulation (visualizing stuff) will aid silence.

Dreaming by submerging you. If you can lucid dream all night long, you’ll wake up like you were at the bottom of a pool.

In that state, silence is easier.

But then, it’s a huge amount of work to motivate yourself to be obsessed enough to find your hands often.

Recap? If you really wanted to put in 3 hours, I’d make one of them recap.

It activates the second attention. With an active second attention, you get more flashy rewards while forcing silence.

So it removes some barriers to silence, by giving you a “measuring stick”.

See visions? Got silent.

Don’t? Didn’t.

And your internal dialog is less likely to re-assert itself, if you’ve done a good recapitulation.

But don’t think you can recapitulate something that keeps filling up your internal dialogue, just by doing it a few times.

I suspect you pretty much have to get sick and tired of the subject before it won’t invade and break your silence.

Or, you have to have a break through understanding.

Like perhaps, the person who persecuted you through out school was actually a paranoid schizophrenic. And you had nothing to do with why he was doing that.

That sort of thing.

This reminds me of something else I have been meaning to ask about.

I have never understood recapitulation, but I suspect I’m finally beginning to understand it better. I stopped trying in the beginning because I thought I was supposed to somehow re-live it in more of a realistic way than just imagining it.

However, lately, I’ve been working on my dream recall, and have had this suspicion that there is probably something useful in connecting with and re-living my dreams in meditation.

This is something that is very easy for me to do. Easier than re-living a memory. My theory is that perhaps by doing this I might be exercising my 2nd attention? Somehow helping it to gain in power, or just manifest more, so that eventually I might be able to achieve what I think the 3rd attention is.

If I understand correctly, the 3rd Attention is when we are able to use the 2nd Attention awareness in the 1st Attention. Such as it sounds like you are doing when you peer into the dark and see different colors that you can grab and bring into your body.

So to recap, I’m asking 3 questions here.

  1. Is recapitulation basically the same as I mentioned about reliving dreams? Except, doing it with memories?
  2. Is there any benefit to re-living my dreams in meditation? If so, what would the benefit be? Or what might that achieve?
  3. Is my understanding of the 3rd Attention accurate?

Recap is all you actually need. I hate that this is true, but sorcery is all about feelings. Not about silence.

But, you won’t be able to see that until you can easily step into another world without any preparation.

It’s the realization that there’s no procedures at all. You go where you feel you can go.

If your feelings are serene, you can go more places.

But in the meantime, recap activates the second attention because you sit there with eyes closed, breathing smoothly, turn your head like you are gazing, and visualize past memories.

How could that NOT wake up the second attention???

If that’s not obvious to anyone, you need to spend some time on the Simple Silence Technique, until you KNOW what the second attention is, for sure.

There’s no excuse for anyone to have questions about what the assemblage point is, and what the second attention is. Those are trivial to learn.

Also, by remembering those past events, you light up those long dormant emanations.

You can’t remember or think about or perceive ANYTHING, unless it’s in the range of your assemblage point.

Moving it around all over the place like that makes the assemblage point more flexible.

It’s lit up past positions again, so your assemblage point can slide over there more easily.

It’s like cleaning trash out the tidepools in Laguna.

Water begins to flow to spots that had become stagnant.

At the max, you can feel your entire life as a big web in front of you. Each point is a place of activity you can recall.

(((2.

You get back the energy you lost over there. You’re stuck there. That will keep you from changing worlds easily.

A good analogy would be Gulliver’s Travels. None of those tiny ropes could hold him down on the beach. But dozens of them could.

(((3.

I like to stay out of that argument. As Carlos would have said, it’s in the realm of “mental masturbation”.

People like to flatter themselves, in the absence of any real experiences, by imagining this thing, or that thing they did, was the 3rd attention.

How did they pick that to obsess over?

You can find out if you have a 4 year old around. Tell them to NEVER go near the furnace, and see what happens.

So they found the coolest, most dangerous thing, and are pacifying their mind thinking about it, instead of sitting in a chair learning to be silent.

While you’re at it, why not imagine you have as much money as Michael Bloomberg?

Speaking of masturbation, here’s the deal on sex. I didn’t explain this clearly before, because Carlos never did.

But I keep getting asked.

Men probably don’t lose energy, having sex with women. I suspect that they gain energy.

Assuming of course, there’s no child.

I wouldn’t know for sure, because Carlos made me celibate so long ago that I wasn’t able to detect that last time I had sex.

But Cholita teases me once in a blue moon, and the effect greatly helps my darkness gazing.

Being a witch, Cholita can dole out sexual energy, one touch at a time.

Unfortunately, men are stupid. The sexual energy becomes like candy, to keep them coming back.

Then most women will figure out how to re-purpose them.

Sex is the wind up key for their biologically (or socially) programmed controlling behavior.

It could explain why Carlos didn’t discourage orgies in Cleargreen.

It broke up the controlling behavior.

But one on one, you gave them permission to control you, once you have sex.

Also, the energy gained will completely change your course at the deepest level.

So, a male with an active sex life won’t be able to practice enough to learn sorcery. And if they manage to do it anyway, everything gets constantly scrambled.

If it’s a witch like Cholita, that might work out. But if it’s your fussy girl next door, you’re screwed. They’re headed towards misery, and nothing is going to stop them from dragging you along for company.

Women lose energy from sex, I guess, although Cholita insists she doesn’t.

I’ve seen the worms in them. It’s not the kind of sight you believe when you see it, but there it is. It’s what Carlos described.

If he hadn’t, I wonder what I would have seen?

No way to tell.

Masturbation on the other hand, simply uses up all of your time.

And since Sex with women isn’t a loss for men, why would masturbation be?

Let’s put aside that going without sex can produce disturbing dreams, which can lead to lucidity.

It may be true, but I doubt anyone’s ever made good use of that. It’s just too messy in dreaming, to solve it one way.

The real problem almost certainly is, single men will do that for hours if they can get away with it. And typically enhance it with substances.

There’s a dirty little secret for alcohol addicts. I learned about it because the double woman I found had to go to court ordered rehab. She had 6 or 8 drinks, some cocaine, someone peed on her plastic pink flamingo, so she decided to outrun the police in her convertible.

It made sense at the time. Especially since not too long before, the police had to visit her. They ended up taking pictures next to her and Zelia (imported as a playmate for Jenna, from Taiwan) in their bikinis.

So I dutifully drove her everywhere until she got her license back a year later. And that included rehab.

The alcoholics are nearly always using pot or something else. And when they hole up in a hotel room getting drunk for days, they’re masturbating. Or hookers.

One more warning about masturbation. Carlos saw this as a big deal.

Maybe because he didn’t have xhamster, and was a former catholic, his view on this was a bit distorted.

Certainly, if you ask the Japanese about his complaints they’ll say, “It can’t be helped.”

At any rate, Carlos said that if you look at porn, you’ll escalate.

I guess he was trying to set the record straight for the entire class.

From experience???

He said, eventually you’ll be looking at pictures of women being choked.

Trouble is, women these days don’t seem to mind that as long as it’s relatively safe.

My double woman wanted to visit a bondage dungeon with me. When I asked what was up with that, her other 3 friends said, “Haven’t you seen 50 shades?”

There’s also the Milarepa effect. That’s where you’re sitting in your cave, and demons visit to show you how they torture people in hell.

If Milarepa had xhamster in his cave, it would have been a lot gorier.

Recap is all you actually need. I hate that this is true, but sorcery is all about feelings. Not about silence.

Dan, I have a question on this. Does this mean that without putting effort in recap, we could not progress in silence and looking for colors?

This thought has crossed my mind, because in your case you did really a lot of recapitulation, and maybe it was the thing which has helped you build a sustainable silence practice? Is it so? What is your experience with others?

It seems to be a very important topic, as missing this point could be a bottleneck for many of us and get us stuck for a long time..

I’m not Dan, but if I understood correctly what he said, then it is possible to be silent and see colors without recapitulating, but it is harder, more daring, and SCARY. I can attest to it being those things, specially the scary part. I am on the process of building my recapitulation list, I can’t take scaring myself to death trying to be silent anymore.

No. I have students who learned to see colors without recap.

And children see them too.

If you watch those in silence, the assemblage point HAS to move.

But it might turn out it’s very hard to be silent, unless you’ve recapitulated.

That because troublesome thoughts keep coming back to stop the silence.

The same ones over and over.

But, you can “cheat” and swim around those, as long as you can see colors.

No one who uses the simple silence technique gets stuck. It’s only when they dabble in it, and don’t put in a sustained effort.

The way you can tell is, if they got stuck, they’d have specific complaints. And those could be addressed.

There’s none that can’t be figured out.

Where’s that pic of Milarepa’s butt when you need it? I lost the link.

Milarepa’s Callused Backside:

I suppose it wouldn’t be a good idea to set that as the Castaneda subreddit wall paper?

Uhhh…I think that would be off-putting. Backgrounds are best suited to patterned images, generalized so the eye doesn’t get distracted from the text.

I could put a link to it at the top of the practice logs section in the Wiki?

Edit: plus you can see his balls! Would probably get us listed as a NSFW subreddit.

And what’s up with the earrings???

Traditional Tibetan custom for esteemed yogis. As well as the long hair.

https://www.tibettravel.org/tibetan-handicrafts/tibetan-earrings.html

Milarepa wasn’t a monk, important to remember!

this is such good info on the silence.

would read for a whole book of carlo’s just to glean these hints.

you oughta write the book, “warrior’s cake”

I can’t write a book, endorse anything, hold workshops, feel up any women, or in any way do something that gives opponents of Carlos an excuse to say I was doing this for personal gain.

Otherwise I put what I’m working for at risk.

And coincidentally, they gave up, and returned to join the ranks of the petty tyrants, forever.

That’s the part I can’t get over. The forever part.

Don Juan said happens that way. Apparently it does.

It’s like once they closed the door on intent, it refuses to open again.

yeah, am just learning about this..
well, anyway, after reading the art of dreaming in 2012,
looked into his life (wiki? can’t remember what source, or if it was clickbait rabbit hole?) and was actually never even considering that any of it was fabricated - but heard about the girl in the desert and that there was not much to say about his personal life after such lil’ spotlight, mid 70’s, or around the publication of that time magazine volume.
but yeah, the part where they say that it is fictitious or based on the fact that it cannot be reproduced, anecdotal..or? i guess actually finding don Juan, and experiencing it empirically, from the anthropologist’s perspective..
but, to me, it was as real as anything the moment i discovered my hand afterwards, in a dream.

so if they do relent, it will make weak their only stratagem in keeping the mundane, or tonal, heh, grip on the sheeples in literature, who are fully subscribed to such a pallid industry of indoctrination
