Dan, this issue of memories and cleaning, is very reminiscent of a Hawaiian method called ho’oponopono, basically he says that all we have negative and positive experiences are memories and with this method we can clean these memories, now reading “door to infinity” there is a section where Don Juan says something like that, about reality being memories, the idea we have of something, that way it becomes concrete, but this issue of cleaning and the recapitulation makes sense and is very practical in that.
“Islander Magic” is one of the original “8 great strains of Ancient Shamanism” still present in the world.
That’s not to say your guy is the real thing.
You never know what forms of shamanism are “contaminated” by bad players incorporating elements from the book of Carlos.
So for example, from my childhood experiences growing up with an anthropologist father, studying shamanism at the tribes of southern California, if some shaman at a tribe seems to be practicing the same as is in Carlos’ books it almost always meant he copied it.
And would subsequently claim it was theirs, and Carlos stole it.
I don’t know if that happens in Hawaii, but hopefully not.
There’s certainly left over “Islander Magic” on Formosa.
I’ve been up there in the mountains with those guys.
They have no idea who Carlos Castaneda is.
But to see what they practice, I’d have to marry one of their daughters.
Not a horrible prospect I must admit.
They have a custom of selling daughters to foreign white people, going back hundreds of years.
“Dutch Formosa” it used to be called.
